The historical information about Hromgla:
Its ancient name was
Hromgla, nowadays the place is called Rumkale . It is
estimated that there were people living there since the 9 century B.C. due to its
strategical position.
The way to get in is to follow the road that is made of several complex rooms
built in the walls on the shores of Euprates and Merzimen river..
There are remains from late hellenistic time and roman time on the stone
buildings. The standing buildings are the products of late roman time and the middle
ages.
It is known that romgla was a very İmportant place during th 11 th
century. 
It is told that
St. John copied
the draf ts of the New Testament and hid them in the castle and later the copies have been
carried to Beirut. The castle city which has been called "Hromklay" by
Armenians, "Kala-Ahomata” by Syrian Orthodox , is named as "Kal-at el
Müslimin" at the end of the XII. century. After the Merc-i Dabık war Ottomans ruled
Rumkale.
There still are some buildings and other remains from the Turkish - Islamic
Age. There are military remains due to the reason that it has been a very strategical
place since it was first founded.
